Pharmaceutical Properties

While more research is needed in human clinical trials to validate these findings, a study published in the Journal of Cancer Research and Clinical Oncology in 2016 highlighted that laminarin induced apoptosis, or cell death, in human colon cancer cells.

The polysaccharide exhibited significant anti-proliferative activity, essentially preventing the cancer cells from multiplying. Research has also shown that laminarin can exhibit anti-tumor properties. A 2015 study published in the International Journal of Biological Macromolecules demonstrated that laminarin could inhibit the growth of certain types of tumors, and it was proposed as a promising candidate for tumor therapy. The study suggested that laminarin achieved this by boosting the immune response and inhibiting angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels that tumors need to grow).
